Pros and cons

Every time we’re in New Jersey, it makes me wonder what we’re still doing in Norway. I mean, Norway is one of the worlds best countries to live in, It’s safe, I have all my family and friends there, I can get work there and so on. Practical and financial things are really good, but is that enough?

How much does the weather matter to you? Nice, warm and sunny days? Compared to cold, dark and rainy days? April and May is usually the most beautiful months in Norway. It’s getting a little warmer, trees and flowers are starting to blossom and everyone is filled with the hope of a long and warm summer ahead of them. Then comes August and everyone is just as disappointed and depressed cause the whole summer rained away. There was a few nice days, but of course you didn’t time your vacation well enough and was instead sitting infront of your computer screen getting Facebook updates from all your friends telling about their beautiful day at the beach. At the beach, the wind was cold and the water freezing, but no one would say anything about that.

The Norwegian weather isn’t all that bad though, when there actually is a nice day, Norway is the best place to be in my opinion! So anyway… As you can guess, the weather matters a lot to me. I guess I always get kind of a winter depression in the cold and dark months. I need more sleep and I just don’t have those crazy happy feelings I always get in the spring. I guess what I’m asking is, would you move to another country because of the weather? Obviously I wouldn’t, since we still live in Norway. For me the weather is the only obstacle there, but of course Scott has a different view, and it all needs to be taken in consideration.

Ahh, oh well, enough rambling. Today is beauuuutiful out, so I’m gonna go do some yoga(!) before I’m heading out to tan the belly! Enjoy the rain back in Norway! :)

Morning Glory in Congers, New York

0

I’m waking up to the sound of happy birds outside the window and Oliver kicking me lightly inside my growing belly. It’s dawn. Still early, only 5.30. Scott is sleeping next to me. I always wake up first. Love mornings. Specially this one. We’re in New York. Scott’s grandparents picked us up at JFK after what felt like the longest flight ever over the Atlantic yesterday(Flying pregnant is far from comfortable). Coming here was the best we could’ve done though. Sonja made us lovely dinner and pampered us with everything we needed and didn’t need, making sure that the parents to be were as comfy as possible. Entering this house must be like going through the closet to Narnia. It’s another world in here from what’s outside. Except it’s not imaginary, it’s a piece of Norway. Back in the days it was easier to travel with lots of things, so they’ve brought a lot of stuff from Norway that makes you feel like you’re actually there. The furnitures, the decor, the pictures and paintings on the wall all reminds me of home. The local radio channel from our home town is on and it smells like coffee, Sonja’s sweet perfume and whatever Norwegian traditional dinner that’s cooking. The house is filled with good memories and lots of lots of love! I can’t think of anyone who wouldn’t like it here.

I wrote that this morning before Freddie made us French Toast and I went outside to photograph SUMMER (It’s actually green here and flowers and trees are blossoming!). I’m burnt after reading “Eat, Pray, Love” in the sun. Today is perfect and I look forward to spending another ten days here with our family and friends.

Landscape on Low f-stop

1

Today was beautiful out. Sunny, frosty and just enough snow for it to be white outside. I just finished taking pictures of three gorgeous sisters and was on my way home, when I saw this winter wonderland landscape. Even though how cold I was after the last shoot, I just had to get out again for more. It’s been such a long time since last time I photographed for just myself.. In these photos I used a Canon 5D mark II with a 35mm f/1.4. I put the settings on AV, which makes the shutter automatic and put the f-stop on 1.4. With a low f-stop, you won’t get everything clear, so you gotta make sure you focus on what you want clear in the picture. Under, I wanted the bridge to be clear, and the rest blurry.

Sedona, Arizona

I guess I lost motivation for blogging lately. I won’t stop, it just won’t be that often anymore. Here comes an update…

We came home from the states last night after an awesome trip in NY, NJ and Phoenix, Arizona. We spent the first two days at Scott’s grandparents house in New York, as his dads house was still without power after hurricane Sandy. Sandy left massive destructions over there. We wanted to go take a look at the beach in Belmar, but the police were everywhere making sure only the people that lived there were allowed in. This because the coastline have all these massive beautiful mansions that people were stealing things from. We saw the police and the military everywhere, lots of trees down, streets loaded with furnitures and stuff from the 1st floor of houses that was ruined because of flooding. One of them one block away from Scott’s dads house. His truck flooded and was totaled.

We really are lucky to live in Norway. It’s not that fun. But we do survive the rain. That’s all there is, right?

And then was the presidential election. That was exciting to be apart of. All the political discussions on the mall and everywhere we went… Why can’t just everyone do like Norway? : )

Oh well. So we found out that Obama won the election the second people turned their phones on when we landed in Phoenix.

Phoenix was hot! We had around 30 degrees celsius the first couple of days! Was awesome, so good to walk around with a dress in November. I wish I could’ve packed the warm wind in a suitcase and let it out right outside the front door, so it would be the first thing I felt every morning…

Scott was in Phoenix for PressNomics. I was there for pleasure. And shopping. And tanning. And swimming. And shopping. And reading. And Scott. And the after parties. 300 computer “geeks” gathered in one place. An experience.

We also took a day to drive up to Grand Canyon. Now, that was a breathtaking sight! It didn’t even look like planet earth.

And we saw “Flight”. If you don’t like flying already, you don’t wanna watch that movie. But it was good, and I could hear I wasn’t the only one sniffling walking out of the theater.

I read “Mornings in Jenin”. I have a total different view of the Israel-Palestine conflict now. I learned a lot. It was good!

Oh and we flew with all the celebs! First Jace Everett on the way to NJ, then Jordan Sparks home from Phoenix. Had to say.

So now we’re home again. Going back to NJ for christmas. In two years I’ve been to America eight times now. NY, NJ, Boston, Philadelphia, San Fransisco, Phoenix, Hawaii, Aruba… I love it there a lot, but as we say in Norway – Borte bra, men hjemme best!

Here’s a photo from Sedona which was about a two hour long drive north of Phoenix.

Reunited

I’ve finally been reunited with my husband that’s been away for about ten days in South Africa with his job. Right now we’re both waiting at Stavanger airport for the plain to Oslo where we’re gonna sleep over till tomorrow. Tomorrow we finally get to see friends and family again back in NY and NJ. It’s gonna be good to go back, but also very sad to see all the damages hurricane “Sandy” has caused… My dad is also in NYC, he was gonna run the NY Marathon that got cancelled due to the hurricane. Very sad that it got cancelled, but I guess it wouldn’t have been right if they went on with it…

Anyways.. We’re only staying in NY and NJ for a couple days and then we head on to Phoenix, Arizona. I’ve never been there before, so I’m very excited to see how it is. Maybe this trip (and my new 50mm f/1.2 lens that’s waiting for me in NJ) will make me blog a little more again :)

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those who were affected by the deadly hurricane…

Sunday Music Playlist

If Sunday is raining. Or if you’re planning to clean like I am. I put together a playlist with some of my favorites. Listen here.

I stopped along the road this morning and photographed a tree. I might start to like fall.

Fall Beauties

While hiking with the kids at work, I noticed this little cozy place up in the woods and figured right away I had to get someone up there for a shoot. Hiking with the kids however is not like hiking by yourself! I was exhausted after carrying all the camera equipment plus a bunch of other stuff. The models were in better shape though and looked beautiful as always as you can see below. Thanks girls for being able to go on the spot! This won’t be the last time you’re modeling for me!

Back to Work

5

I’ve had the most wonderful, relaxing and most exciting summer vacation. I’ve had time to do things I normally don’t take time to and I’ve spent a lot of quality time with Scott. This weekend we spent in Stavanger with the founders of WooThemes and their wives (and gorgeous babies!), had an awesome time! On the way back we stopped by this beach. I can’t believe this is Norway. It’s so pretty! And after work tomorrow, we move into our house! Butterflies! Prepare yourself for some interior posts coming up soon…
